Walking into the studio you almost run right into a ring. Behind that is an open floor space that is where they hold the Aeroboxing classes. Turn and there are a very skinny set of stairs. They open into a glass room with a bunch of bags and behind that are the locker rooms. I signed up for the first class special and chose AeroImpact. This is the only class offered where you punch bags all other classes are shadowboxing. My teachers name was Hayat Sam.
Class starts with no warm up which I thought was odd. We went straight into punching. The teacher was tough she didn't allow breaks. I loved how she walked around and made corrections during class. I appreciate it because most instructors don't. My form needed correcting. I also have not been utilizing my torso to gain more power in my punch.
The room was all white with a bunch of bags next to each other. The door was left open during the class and the walls are all clear. Felt a bit like you were in a fish tank with everyone walking past and staring. The space also felt a bit claustrophobic since all the bags were so close together and the room was so small. At one point in the class we were doing partner work and everyone kept stepping on each others toes.
The class did not include abs or anything besides boxing. Wait we did do a plank at the end but thats it. I can't tell if it was a good thing or not but it felt refreshing. Overall the teacher was hard which was appreciated but she seemed to get angry when we messed up. We were all so tired towards the end and she was demonstrating combinations and I couldn't go fast enough and she got a little annoyed. I do not take this personal because I like being pushed but man I was so tired at that point.
I would love to go back and try one of the shadowboxing classes. There are like three other classes that include jump roping and other types of workout. I feel like I didn't get a sense of the studio from this one class. I will make more of an assessment after I take another class! Let me know what you think.
